KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, has accused Pakistan of pursuing a \u201cdouble game\u201d against Washington following reports that Islamabad provided refuge to Iranian military aircraft during the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Writing on X early Tuesday, Khalilzad claimed that while Pakistan\u2019s military leadership was facilitating talks between Tehran and Washington, it was simultaneously allowing Iranian military aircraft to use its airbases to avoid potential U.S. strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former U.S. envoy said that if the reports are confirmed, they should not come as a surprise, arguing that for the past four decades, Pakistan has maintained a pattern of cooperating with the United States while acting against American interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs examples,\u201d Khalilzad wrote, \u201cPakistan assured the United States that it would not pursue nuclear weapons while seriously working toward acquiring them. We should also not forget that it sheltered Osama bin Laden until we eventually found him near one of its military facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In recent days, several U.S. media outlets, citing sources, reported that Pakistan provided sanctuary to Iranian military aircraft at its military airfields during the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
