KABUL: The UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has welcomed the peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important step toward the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
\u201cI warmly congratulate the U.S. and Iran for having reached a peace deal that provides for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a framework for further negotiations. This represents a critical step towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict,\u201d he said.
He also thanked Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and other regional partners for their constructive role in supporting the diplomatic process.
Meanwhile, the government of Qatar welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding aimed at resolving remaining issues between Tehran and Washington, calling it a significant step toward lasting peace, regional stability, and global economic growth.
In a statement, Qatar\u2019s Foreign Ministry praised both countries for choosing dialogue and diplomacy to address their differences and also commended Pakistan and other regional and international actors for helping reduce tensions and bring the parties closer together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
