KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has strongly condemned the recent airstrikes carried out by Pakistan\u2019s military against Afghanistan.
Khalilzad stated that Islamabad had ignored international calls, as well as appeals from many of its own citizens, to resolve disputes through dialogue and had instead launched another attack on Afghanistan, resulting in the martyrdom and injuries of a large number of civilians.
The former U.S. envoy said that he has consistently condemned the killing of innocent Afghan civilians by Pakistan\u2019s military and reiterated his condemnation of the latest attacks.
He added that Pakistan has so far failed to respond positively to proposals and initiatives aimed at resolving disputes through peaceful means and has not demonstrated any constructive approach toward de-escalation.
Khalilzad further questioned whether Pakistan genuinely seeks a negotiated settlement or whether the country\u2019s military establishment is pursuing other objectives, emphasizing that if such goals are indeed the primary goal of Pakistan\u2019s military leadership, it is unsurprising that they have not been stated openly.
The remarks come amid rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan following reports of Pakistani airstrikes in several Afghan provinces that allegedly caused significant civilian casualties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
