{"id":22521,"date":"2026-07-04T07:41:01","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T07:41:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/omidradio.com\/en\/?p=22521"},"modified":"2026-07-04T07:41:02","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T07:41:02","slug":"ebola-cases-in-dr-congo-rise-to-1502-death-toll-reaches-473","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/omidradio.com\/en\/2026\/07\/04\/ebola-cases-in-dr-congo-rise-to-1502-death-toll-reaches-473\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebola cases in DR Congo rise to 1,502; death toll reaches 473"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KABUL: The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced on Friday that the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country has risen to 1,502.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to official figures, at least 473 people have died from the disease so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Congolese health authorities, cases have been recorded in the eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outbreak began in mid-May, and the country\u2019s Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), has expanded efforts to identify infections, conduct testing, treat patients, and trace individuals who have been in contact with infected persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, reports indicate that the first clinical trial of a potential treatment for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus has begun in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Currently, 10 laboratories across the country are capable of detecting this strain and using three different testing methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, health officials say that poor infrastructure, insecurity, and a lack of resources continue to hamper efforts to diagnose and respond to the outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Limited access to reliable electricity, inadequate road networks, and delays in transporting samples have complicated the timely delivery of test results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts also emphasize that the country\u2019s fragile healthcare system, significant reductions in foreign aid, and mistrust among some communities toward government authorities and international health workers remain among the major obstacles to containing the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KABUL: The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced on Friday that the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country has risen to 1,502.
