KABUL: The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced that its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sanctioned accounts and digital asset reserves linked to Iran\u2019s central bank, resulting in the freezing of more than $130 million in Iranian digital assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the move was aimed at disrupting and weakening Iranian financial networks that Washington considers illicit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the United States is seeking to restrict Iran\u2019s access to financial resources through digital currencies and prevent the use of such channels to evade sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U.S. Treasury Department emphasized that it will continue identifying and blocking financial channels allegedly used by Iran to prevent the potential financing of illicit activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Iran has repeatedly described U.S. economic sanctions as illegal and has rejected allegations that it uses illicit financial networks and digital assets to bypass international sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
