The Bald Range wildfire near Summerland expanded rapidly, damaging homes and prompting large-scale evacuations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities said firefighting aircraft rescued more than 50 people, while search-and-rescue teams continued looking for residents who may have been trapped and the police are also investigating a possible wildfire-related death near Summerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Premier David Eby warned that the situation remains extremely dangerous, while officials described the fire conditions as \u201cexplosive.\u201d The state of emergency gives the provincial government additional powers to restrict travel and arrange accommodation for evacuees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KABUL: British Columbia has declared a state of emergency after a fast-moving wildfire destroyed homes and forced more than 20,000 people to evacuate communities around Okanagan Lake in western Canada.
