KABUL: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the European Union\u2019s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) have discussed strengthening humanitarian cooperation and coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a statement from the NDMA, its head, Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met with Thomas Diehrmann Ray, head of ECHO\u2019s office, and his delegation to discuss joint humanitarian assistance and coordination between the two institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turabi said the authority primarily focuses on facilitating humanitarian assistance and providing necessary support to organizations working in the sector. He called on donors to closely monitor the use of funds allocated for humanitarian projects to ensure their effective implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also stressed the importance of coordinating with the disaster management authority when designing and implementing projects, particularly regarding target areas and the type of assistance required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ECHO official welcomed the authority\u2019s cooperation in facilitating humanitarian organizations\u2019 activities and agreed on the need for coordination among donors, implementing organizations and relevant government institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said ECHO was working to keep Afghanistan\u2019s mine-clearance program among its priorities and provide funding for its continuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
