KABUL: A group of 102 former French and British diplomats has called on their governments to impose sanctions on Israel and take joint action to uphold international law and protect Palestinian rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the letter, cited by French newspaper Le Monde, France and Britain should adopt a common position on compliance with international law regarding Palestine and support equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former diplomats described the demolition of Palestinian homes in the occupied territories and violence by Israeli settlers as examples of \u201cethnic cleansing.\u201d They warned that Israel\u2019s current policies could permanently undermine the prospects for establishing a Palestinian state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The signatories urged France and Britain to halt arms transfers and military cooperation with Israel, suspend certain trade agreements and restrict trade, investment, insurance and financial services linked to Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They also called for the full and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
