{"id":24167,"date":"2026-08-24T04:28:35","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T04:28:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/omidradio.com\/en\/?p=24167"},"modified":"2026-08-24T04:28:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T04:28:36","slug":"iran-begins-study-to-map-afghanistans-mineral-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/omidradio.com\/en\/2026\/08\/24\/iran-begins-study-to-map-afghanistans-mineral-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran begins study to map Afghanistan\u2019s mineral resources"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KABUL: Iran has begun studies aimed at identifying Afghanistan\u2019s mineral resources and developing a comprehensive database of the country\u2019s mineral potential, an Iranian official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahmoud Fatemi Aqda, Iran\u2019s Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and head of the Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration Organization, said the assessment of Afghanistan\u2019s mineral potential has been placed on Iran\u2019s agenda and the studies have already begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fatemi Aqda described Afghanistan as one of the main target countries in Iran\u2019s mining diplomacy, adding that plans to expand cooperation in geosciences and mineral exploration are also being pursued through the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the cooperation could help establish a more stable supply of raw materials needed by industries in both Iran and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fatemi Aqda also highlighted Iran\u2019s own mineral potential, saying the country has around 35 of the 114 mineral types known globally, while noting that exploration activities remain below the country\u2019s actual potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that 66 new exploration projects have been launched in Iran to address the gap and reduce dependence on oil revenues, with greater opportunities being created for private-sector participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Iranian official also stressed the importance of identifying strategic and rare-earth elements and described addressing land subsidence caused by excessive groundwater extraction as another major priority in the field of geosciences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KABUL: Iran has begun studies aimed at identifying Afghanistan\u2019s mineral resources and developing a comprehensive database of the country\u2019s mineral potential, an Iranian official said.
