KABUL: The Supreme Council of Afghanistan Bank has held a meeting chaired by the central bank\u2019s First Deputy, Sediqullah Khalid, to review monetary policy, the banking sector and the expansion of financial services.
According to a statement issued by Afghanistan Bank, the meeting discussed the country\u2019s monetary policies, the current state of the banking sector, the development of Islamic banking, the growth of electronic banking and efforts to expand public access to financial services.
Khalid said the Afghani currency had maintained its stability over the past year despite global economic challenges, performing relatively steadily compared with many currencies in the region and around the world.
The central bank said participants also emphasized the implementation of effective monetary policies, assessment of the current banking-sector situation, continued efforts to develop Islamic banking, expansion of electronic banking and broader access to financial services.
Khalid also said deposits held by the public in banks had increased during the current year, describing the development as one of the notable improvements in the banking sector.
