KABUL: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has described the Moscow Format as one of the most important regional mechanisms for building consensus on Afghanistan and addressing the challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on Tuesday, at the Fourth International Conference on Eurasian Security in Minsk, Belarus, Lavrov said the eighth meeting of the Moscow Format on Afghanistan had been held in Moscow a month earlier, with the participation of a high-level delegation from Kabul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lavrov stressed that resolving Afghanistan-related issues requires cooperation among regional countries, adding that actors from outside the region cannot replace regional cooperation mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The eighth Moscow Format meeting was held on October 5, 2026, with representatives from Afghanistan, Russia, China, India, Iran, Pakistan and Central Asian countries in attendance, where they discussed political and economic cooperation, counterterrorism, combating drug trafficking, and strengthening regional ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In another part of his remarks, the Russian foreign minister called for the establishment of a common security architecture in Eurasia and voiced Moscow\u2019s opposition to the presence of NATO military infrastructure in regional countries, including Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
