Macron urges Israel to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty, halt fighting

KABUL: Emmanuel Macron, President of France, has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, urging both sides to remain committed to the deal.

Macron called on Israel to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and bring an end to the fighting. He also expressed concern that continued attacks could undermine the fragile ceasefire between the two sides.

Earlier, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, also welcomed the 10-day ceasefire agreement and voiced hope that it would pave the way for lasting peace in the region.

Negotiations between Lebanon and Israel were held in the United States, and the two sides reached an agreement on a 10-day ceasefire on Wednesday.
