KABUL: At least 797 people have been killed and more than 3,000 remain missing following devastating floods along the Nepal-China border, according to Al Jazeera.
Search and rescue operations are continuing as authorities work to locate those still missing and assist survivors. However, severe weather conditions, rising water levels and difficult terrain are hampering rescue efforts.
The disaster was triggered by a glacier collapse in the high Himalayas, which unleashed large volumes of water, mud and debris and caused widespread flooding and landslides in border areas of Nepal and China’s Tibet region.
The floods have destroyed villages and critical infrastructure, while rescue teams continue to face significant challenges in reaching affected areas.
