KABUL: Nooruddin Azizi, the Minister of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan, has reached an agreement with his Turkish counterpart, Umar Polat, to create a “Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment.”
According to a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce today, this agreement was made during a meeting held on the sidelines of the fifth meeting of trade ministers from member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
According to the statement, both sides acknowledged that, considering the vast trade potential between Afghanistan and Turkey, the current volume of trade is insufficient and requires expansion.
Following this agreement, the first meeting of the “Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment” is set to take place soon.
Minister Azizi emphasized the importance of attracting Turkish investments to the available opportunities in Afghanistan. He also discussed the export of key commodities from Afghanistan, including cotton, talc, and coal, to Turkey, with Polat promising cooperation in these areas.
Azizi invited the Turkish Minister of Industry and Commerce to visit Afghanistan at a suitable time to observe the extensive investment opportunities firsthand.
It is noteworthy that Afghanistan and Turkey currently enjoy wide-ranging political, economic, and trade relations.
