KABUL: Donald Trump, President of the United States, along with First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance, was forced to leave the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner after a shooting incident late Saturday.
According to Reuters, the leadership of the White House is safe and unharmed.
An official from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the disruption occurred when an armed man carrying a shotgun attacked security personnel assigned to the event.
Trump later wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that the suspect had been arrested, praising the Secret Service and security forces for their response. “It was a notable night in Washington, D.C.,” he said.
Videos circulating online show panic at the scene, with people being instructed to “get down” as attendees lowered their heads.
The FBI has launched an investigation into the incident, and Trump is expected to address the situation in a press conference later in the day.
The annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner was attended by more than 2,000 guests in Washington, D.C.
