KABUL: The country’s defense and security forces have prevented the smuggling of hundreds of sheep, as well as medical and agricultural supplies, in Nangarhar and Kandahar provinces.
Sediqullah Nusrat, deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said in a statement that 439 sheep, 1,110 tablets, quantities of cream, agricultural medicines, and 100 cartons of low-quality pharmaceuticals were seized by the personnel of the 201st Khalid bin Walid Army Corps and 205 Al-Badr Army Corps in the two provinces.
While the statement did not specify the origin or destination of the smuggled goods, it was apparently expected that they were being transported across the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Afghan border forces have been increasing efforts to prevent illegal cross-border trade along the Durand Line and other frontier areas.
