IEA courts handled more than 118,000 women’s rights cases in five years

KABUL: Officials of the Islamic Emirate’s Supreme Court say courts across the country have handled 118,869 cases related to women’s rights over the past five years.

Qari Mansour Ahmad Hamza, deputy spokesman for the Supreme Court, said 12,976 cases involving women’s inheritance and property rights were also reviewed and adjudicated during the same period.

He added that another 9,021 cases related to collecting and registering information on women’s inheritance are under review.

Supreme Court officials said inheritance, property, dowry, financial support and other rights granted to women under Islamic Sharia are considered their established rights.

The Supreme Court said courts are required to review cases involving women carefully and impartially, in accordance with Islamic Sharia and the country’s applicable laws.
