World Hepatitis Day celebrated in Kabul

KABUL: The World Hepatitis Day was celebrated under the theme of “Now is the time to act” during a ceremony held today [Sunday, July 28, 2024] by the Ministry of Public Health, here in Kabul, the ministry said in a statement.
The ceremony was attended by the officials of the Ministry and health officials of national and international organizations, said the statement.
Speaking in the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Healthcare Services at the Ministry of Public Health, Mawlavi Abdul Wali Haqqani, said that based on estimates, around 100,000 people have been infected with hepatitis in Afghanistan over the past 10 years.
He added that despite this, the number of hepatitis patients in Afghanistan is low compared to other countries.
Currently, there are centers for the diagnosis of the mentioned disease in 14 provinces of the country, he said.
Hepatitis is a type of liver inflammation, which is known as hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
