Railway station between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan opened in Balkh

KABUL: Provincial Officials in Balkh province say that the railroad station between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, during a ceremony was inaugurated in the Naibabad area on Wednesday with the presence of high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate.

According to Balkh’s governor press office, the inauguration 0ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Minister of Public Works, Mullah Mohammad Isa Sani, the Deputy Minister of Railways of the Ministry of Public Works, Mullah Bakht-ur Rahman Sharaf, governor of Balkh, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan and many other officials.

The Acting Minister of Public Works, during the inauguration of the station, said that through the Mazar-e-Sharif railroad, the provinces of Samangan, Baghlan, Bamyan, Maidan Wardak, and Logar will also be connected to the railroad in Paktika province.

Speaking in the ceremony, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar also said that it is a matter of pride that a big step has been taken today in strengthening the regional economy, according to the statement.

“The construction of the railroad station is an important step to facilitate passengers and trade caravans of Afghan and Uzbek merchants,” the statement quoted him as saying.
