KABUL: The head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Pakistan, Philippa Kandler, stated that the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from the country benefits no one and will not be sustainable.
Kandler made the remarks in her message on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, calling the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan as futile, adding that many of those who were expelled last year have returned again.
She emphasized that the return of Afghan migrants to Afghanistan should take place voluntarily and safely.
Kandler warned that the pressure of the Pakistani government regarding the forced deportation of Afghan migrants has left them in fear and anxiety.
The remarks come at a time when the deadline set by Pakistan for the forced deportation of Afghan migrants (March 31, 2025) has approached.
The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly stressed that neighboring countries should not exploit the issue of migration for political gain.
