Historical sites discovered in Nangarhar

KABUL: Zabiullah Sadat, the head of the Archaeology Department of the Ministry of Information and Culture, said that several historical sites have recently been discovered in the country’s eastern province of Nangarhar.
The newly discovered sites include four locations and five watchtowers for caravans from ancient periods, identified in the Hesarak, Shirzad, and Khogyani districts of the province, he said.
These sites were located along the new Kabul-Nangarhar road, he said, adding the areas date back to pre-Islamic times, including the Buddhist and Kushan periods.
Among the discovered sites are a collection of ancient buildings, residential areas, Buddhist stupas, and temples that hold significant cultural and historical value.
Previously, three historical sites had also been uncovered along the new Kabul-Nangarhar road, in the Surubi district of Kabul province.
