Three Afghan Boxers reach finals of Asian Championship for first time

KABUL: The General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports has announced that three Afghan boxers have advanced to the finals of the Asian Championship in their sport by defeating their opponents.

In a statement released on Tuesday night, the directorate said that Oman Hotak and Firdous Najibi emerged victorious against opponents from Iraq and Saudi Arabia, while Mujtaba Sharifi advanced directly to the next round due to his opponent’s absence.

Hotak competed in the 92 kg weight category and Najibi in the 80 kg category, successfully defeating their rivals. However, Abdullah Bahir Qayomi lost to an opponent from India in the 49 kg category.

With these victories, Afghan athletes have made history by leading Afghanistan to the finals of the Asian Boxing Championship for the first time.

The under-22 Asian Boxing Championship is being held in Sri Lanka from May 12 and will continue until May 25.
