KABUL: Recent comments by Tom Bark, the U.S. Special Representative for Syria and Ambassador to Turkey, have sparked widespread reactions in Lebanon.
After a meeting, he advised journalists to “act civilized and avoid barbaric behavior.”
The Lebanese Journalists’ Union responded strongly, announcing a boycott of all news coverage until an official apology is issued.
The Lebanese government also expressed its discontent regarding Bark’s statements.
The Journalists’ Union labeled the remarks a clear affront to freedom of expression and emphasized that treating journalists with respect is the responsibility of all officials.
