KABUL: The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced that the national team players have donated their match fees from the recent T20 games against the United Arab Emirates, along with their personal expenses, as immediate assistance to the earthquake victims in eastern Afghanistan.
In a statement, the cricket board highlighted that the players participating in the regional one-day matches in Khost province have also pledged to mobilize financial support to aid those affected by the earthquake in the eastern provinces.
The statement read: “Afghan champions express solidarity with the earthquake victims in Kunar! They have dedicated their entire match fees from the game against the UAE, along with additional contributions, to the families impacted by the recent earthquake in Kunar.
Additionally, the Afghan players observed a minute of silence before the start of a tri-series match against the UAE to honor the victims of the devastating earthquake in the eastern provinces.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings, a prominent cricket team from India, have also expressed their support and solidarity with the Afghan earthquake victims. In their statement, they said: “To our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan; we are heartbroken by the earthquake that shook your land. In this darkest moment, may strength and hope lift you again.”
This comes as the Afghan national cricket team secured a victory against the UAE in the tri-series matches.
