KABUL: Xi Jinping, the President of China, concluded a week of diplomatic displays with leaders from over 20 countries by celebrating the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in World War II with a grand military parade.
According to reports from Agence France-Presse on Wednesday, the celebration featured a 90-minute military parade attended by Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-Un, the leaders of China, Russia, and North Korea, in Tiananmen Square, Beijing.
The event, marked by the presence of these three leaders as rivals to the United States, is interpreted by political analysts as a significant display of Xi’s power.
During the ceremony, Xi warned that the world continues to face a choice between “war and peace,” emphasizing that this situation is “unavoidable.”
In a show of military strength, the Chinese leader delivered a speech while riding in a bulletproof convertible limousine, passing through the ranks of military personnel before various world leaders.
This display in Beijing has reportedly angered U.S. President Donald Trump, who reacted from Washington by stating on his social media platform “Truth Social”: “Send my warm regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un while you conspire against the United States.”
China achieved victory against Japan 80 years ago (in 1945) during World War II, although not alone. Beijing had planned for weeks to commemorate this historical achievement.
