KABUL: An explosive and armed attack on a Pakistani military base in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals, including 6 military personnel and 6 attackers, with 20 others, including soldiers, injured, according to Pakistani and Indian media on Tuesday night.
Zulfiqar Hamid, a police official in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stated that the assault occurred in the “Bannu” district after armed individuals detonated a vehicle laden with explosives at the main gate of the base and then entered the facility.
Local official sources indicated that the injured include 18 soldiers and 2 civilians. Witnesses reported that the explosion at the main gate was so powerful that debris was thrown over considerable distances.
The group known as “Ansar al-Mahdi Khurasan,” affiliated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has previously witnessed deadly clashes and attacks between Pakistani security forces and the TTP.
