Australia announces $1 million aid for earthquake victims in Eastern Afghanistan

KABUL: On the fourth day of the devastating earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has announced a $1 million contribution to aid Afghan earthquake victims.

In a joint statement released on Thursday, the Departments of Foreign Affairs and International Development of Australia said that the aid package will be utilized through the “Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund,” managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The statement quoted Australian ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Development, saying, “Australia is working with trusted partners like OCHA to ensure that our assistance reaches those in need. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the victims of this tragic earthquake, their families, and the Afghan community in Australia.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health announced that the head of the Turkish Scientific and Intellectual Research Center (IFAM) has donated $100,000 to assist Afghan earthquake victims, which was handed over to Fazlullah Sirat, the health attaché at the Afghan embassy in Turkey.

This comes as aid efforts for Afghan earthquake victims continue from various countries around the world.
