KABUL: President Donald Trump has recently signed an executive order stating that any government that detains U.S. citizens with the intent to negotiate with Washington will face severe consequences.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the remarks on X on Friday night, describing the signing of this order as an “unprecedented action” to protect American citizens.
He stated: “The new executive order by the President of the United States represents an unprecedented measure to safeguard American citizens from wrongful detention abroad.”
According to this senior U.S. diplomat, the order is titled “State-Sponsored Wrongful Detention.”
This comes as Trump, upon returning to the White House, appointed a special representative for the recovery of detained American citizens from other countries.
