KABUL: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in reaction to the recent remarks of the U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the transfer of Bagram Airfield to the United States, stated that Washington should adhere to the Doha Agreement and adopt a rational and realistic approach.
Mawlavi Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, said in a statement today that it has been clearly communicated to the U.S. in all bilateral negotiations that the independence and territorial integrity of Afghanistan are more important than anything else for the Islamic Emirate.
The statement notes, “In the Doha Agreement, the U.S. committed not to use force or threats against the territorial integrity and political independence of Afghanistan and not to interfere in its internal affairs. Therefore, it is essential to adhere to these commitments.”
The statement further emphasizes that the Islamic Emirate seeks positive relations with all countries based on common and mutual interests, underpinned by its Sharia principles and a balanced, economy-focused foreign policy.
This comes as the U.S. President has reiterated the call for the transfer of the strategic Bagram Airfield to the United States on two occasions in the past two days.
