KABUL: Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, the Presidents of the United States and China, met for the first time in six years for discussions.
CNN reported today that Trump and Xi met at the airbase in the coastal city of Busan, South Korea, where they engaged in a warm and friendly atmosphere, raising hopes for a new chapter in relations between the two rival superpowers.
Trump referred to Xi Jinping as “the great leader of a great country” and expressed his belief that an “extraordinary and long-lasting” relationship will be established between Washington and Beijing.
Meanwhile, Xi Jinping described his meeting with the U.S. President as “a great pleasure.” He noted, “We do not always agree, and it is natural for the two leading economies of the world to have occasional friction… but you and I, who are at the helm of China-U.S. relations, must maintain the right course.”
At the conclusion of their meeting, the two leaders appeared before the media and shook hands.
Just moments before this meeting, the White House leader ended three decades of suspension on U.S. nuclear weapons testing by issuing an order to commence such tests.
