UN concern over “collapse” of talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan

KABUL: Following the unsuccessful ceasefire negotiations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, United Nations officials have expressed concern about the “collapse” of these talks.

The New Indian Express reported on Wednesday night, that Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations, expressed concern over the halted talks during a news conference in New York, hoping that hostilities between Afghanistan and Pakistan do not resume.

Mr. Dujarric stated, “Yes, this is certainly a concerning issue. We are hopeful that even if the talks have stopped, hostilities will not resume.”

The discussions between the delegations of Afghanistan and Pakistan ended without results after three days of deliberations this week, hosted by Turkey in Istanbul.

Sources indicate that the Pakistani side adopted disrespectful attitudes rather than providing logical arguments and satisfactory responses during the negotiations.

The Islamabad delegation stated it cannot prevent foreign drone flights from Pakistan into Afghanistan and take effective action against the Kharijites (ISIS).
