“The role of scholars, community leaders, and media is vital in preventing Polio”

KABUL: Minister of Public Health Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali, during an informational session for journalists and spokespersons from sectoral organizations about “Polio Status and the Role of Media” stated that polio is an “incurable” disease and unfortunately still exists in Afghanistan.

According to Radio Omid correspondent, Minister Jalali noted that compared to last year, positive polio cases have increased this year.

He mentioned that so far this year, nine positive cases have been recorded, with a recent positive case reported in a region of the eastern zone just three months ago.

Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali emphasized the crucial role of scholars, community leaders, media, and social influencers in preventing poliovirus outbreaks.

He stated that misinformation, negative propaganda, and baseless claims regarding the polio vaccine weaken the execution of vaccination campaigns and pose a risk for the spread of the disease.

The Minister of Public Health reiterated that polio is still not treatable and that prevention is the only solution.
