Kabul blanketed in snow as residents celebrate first fall of the year

KABUL: For the first time this winter, Kabul woke up under a blanket of snow, bringing smiles to children and adults alike, there is a revival of the old saying: “May Kabul be without gold rather than without snow.”

Residents were seen taking photos, playing in the snow, and enjoying the rare winter spectacle. “It’s beautiful! Snow always makes the city feel alive,” said, a local shopkeeper.

The Afghanistan Meteorological Authority reports that 30 provinces are currently experiencing rain or snowfall, raising hopes for a productive year ahead.

Mohammad Nasim Moradi, head of the Meteorology Department at the Ministry of Transport, said a cold wave moving from the northwest is responsible for the current weather pattern.

Government officials encouraged citizens to collect and store snow in small pits, which can help alleviate drought conditions and recharge underground water sources.
