KABUL: The National Disaster Management Authority has reported that its provincial office, in collaboration with the MCPA organization, has discovered and neutralized a quantity of unexploded munitions in Kunduz province.
In a statement released today, the authority announced that the munitions include 9 mortar shells, 18 various types of rockets (including BM-41 and BM-21), and 6 artillery shells, all of which were safely neutralized.
The statement further notes that leftover unexploded munitions from past conflicts pose a serious threat to the population, particularly to children.
Therefore, efforts are underway to identify, collect, and clear such materials.
This follows recent announcements from the European Union expressing support for demining efforts and the neutralization of unexploded munitions in Afghanistan, especially in agricultural areas.
