Amnesty International calls for an independent probe into Pakistan’s attacks on Afghanistan

KABUL: Amnesty International has expressed deep concern over civilian casualties resulting from recent airstrikes by the Pakistani military on parts of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar and Paktika provinces.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the human rights organization called for “thorough, independent, and impartial investigations” into the harm inflicted on civilians during the strikes carried out by Pakistani warplanes in these regions over the past two days.

The statement urged all parties involved in the conflict to take every necessary measure to prevent harm to civilians in accordance with their obligations under international law.

Amnesty International noted that this is not the first instance of civilian harm caused by Pakistani military actions in Afghanistan.

Previously, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported that in the last three months of 2025, Pakistani airstrikes had killed 70 civilians and injured 478 others in the country.
