TEHRAN: Students staged anti-government protests at several universities in Tehran on Monday, according to Associated Press.
Demonstrators raised various slogans, expressed support for exiled royal figures, and in some areas clashed with Basij paramilitary forces.
The protests come at a time when the United States is mobilizing troops in the region amid concerns of potential military action against Iran, while simultaneously continuing diplomatic negotiations.
Both sides are reported to be engaged in talks hosted by Switzerland in Geneva.
The combination of expanding domestic unrest and heightened regional military activity has raised international concerns over the potential escalation of tensions.
