WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed recent Western media reports suggesting that General Dan Caine, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, expressed concerns over the risks of a potential conflict between Washington and Tehran.
He made the remarks on Monday night via his social media platform, Truth Social, calling the reports “100 percent false.” He asserted that General Dan Caine did not oppose a war with Iran, though he prefers to avoid conflict. “If a decision is made to go to war, he would fully support it,” Trump wrote.
Trump added that Dan Caine has never suggested refraining from attacks on Iran or limited strikes, as some reports claimed. “He only knows one thing: how to win, and if ordered, he will lead,” the president said.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Caine had warned officials at the White House and the Pentagon about the dangers of a U.S.-Iran conflict. The Wall Street Journal and Axios also cited concerns that the U.S. could become “entangled in a prolonged conflict” following any strike on Iran.
Despite heightened tensions, the scheduling of the next round of U.S.-Iran talks in Geneva has eased some fears of immediate military confrontation, although U.S. warships remain deployed in the region.
