KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, held talks with his Uzbek counterpart, Bakhtiyar Saeedov, regarding regional developments, particularly the recent unlawful incursions by the Pakistani military into Afghan territory.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Head of Information and Public Relations of the Foreign Ministry, said in a statement on Saturday, that Minister Muttaqi outlined Afghanistan’s principled position, emphasizing that recent Afghan military actions were carried out to defend the country’s “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and airspace.”
Muttaqi stressed his belief in resolving issues through dialogue but affirmed that defending Afghan soil is a legitimate right in case of aggression.
Meanwhile, Minister Saeedov stated that diplomacy is the only effective path forward and pledged to play an active role in facilitating dialogue in the future.
Earlier, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry had called for an immediate ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
