Reaction to Pakistani Information Minister: ‘Shamelessly calls hospital bombing a source of pride’

KABUL: Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has strongly criticized remarks by Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan’s information minister, following a reported airstrike on a treatment center in Kabul.

In a statement, Fitrat accused the Pakistani official of attempting to justify the bombing of a hospital, calling it an act of “shamelessness” and condemning the remarks in the strongest possible terms.

The comments come after Afghan authorities said aircraft from Pakistan struck a large drug rehabilitation center in Kabul overnight, resulting in heavy casualties among patients.

Pakistani officials, however, have said the strikes targeted military sites in the Afghan capital.

Fitrat said such statements reveal what he described as the “true nature” of Pakistan’s leadership, while reiterating accusations that civilian facilities had been deliberately targeted.

There was no independent confirmation of casualty figures, which Afghan sources said were in the hundreds.
