KABUL: The country’s National Disaster Management Authority says the death toll from recent heavy rains and flooding has risen to 28, with 49 others injured over the past four days.
Spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, in a videotape said today that the casualties were reported across multiple provinces, including Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Helmand, Balkh, and Nangarhar, among others.
According to the agency, at least 130 homes have been completely destroyed, while 438 others have been partially damaged.
Officials said flooding has also caused widespread damage to dams, water networks, agricultural lands, roads, shops, and other public infrastructure.
Emergency assistance has been delivered through provincial offices, the agency added.
The update comes as the national meteorological department warns that heavy rainfall and flash floods are continuing in at least 24 provinces.
