China Pledges Continued Cooperation in Afghanistan’s Health Sector

KABUL: Zhao Xing, China’s ambassador to Afghanistan, has met with Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali, Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health, to discuss healthcare needs and ongoing cooperation in the sector.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Health today, the two sides discussed the provision of medical equipment for Al-Shifa Hospital, capacity-building programs in traditional medicine, and the renovation and expansion of the Mirwais Regional Hospital in Kandahar Province.
Jalali emphasized the importance of strengthening the health system, improving staff capacity, and equipping hospitals, and requested Chinese support for hospital development projects and the establishment of a traditional medicine institute.
The Chinese ambassador assured that Beijing would work in coordination with Afghan health authorities to implement the proposed projects.
He also pledged support for training programs in traditional medicine for Afghan health workers.
China has maintained cooperation with Afghanistan across various sectors in recent years, including healthcare and infrastructure development.
