KABUL: Nearly 3,000 Afghan migrants were forcibly deported from Pakistan in a single day, Afghan authorities said.
The High Commission for Addressing Refugees’ Issues, said in a statement today that a total of 2,990 Afghan nationals were expelled and returned home on Friday.
The migrants re-entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar province and the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.
Of the total, 2,320 people crossed via Torkham, while 670 entered through Spin Boldak after being expelled from Pakistan, said the statement, adding that upon arrival they received humanitarian assistance before being transported to their home areas.
The increase in deportations comes after the reopening of the Torkham crossing, with reports indicating a renewed surge in forced returns of Afghan migrants from Pakistan.
