Construction of two check dams begins in Ghazni

KABUL: Afghanistan’s Ministry of Water and Energy said in a statement that the construction work on two check dams worth 18.95 million Afghanis has begun in Ghazni province.
According to the statement, the dams are being built in the Shinki-9 karezes area of Gilan District and will each be five meters high.
Officials said each structure will have the capacity to store up to 80,000 cubic meters of water and will create job opportunities for dozens of workers during the construction phase.
The project is expected to play a key role in recharging nine karezes, improving the local environment, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and controlling floods.
Funded through the ministry’s development budget, the dams are scheduled to be completed within six months.
