KABUL: Mawlavi Attaullah Omari, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, says the current year 1405 is Afghanistan’s year of independence in food production.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 43rd traditional Farmers’ Festival in Kabul, Omari stated that alongside political freedom, the country is moving toward self-reliance in food and domestic production.
He noted that Afghanistan was previously dependent on imports across many sectors, but is now progressing toward economic independence and self-sufficiency.
Meanwhile, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, called on all government institutions and charitable organizations to fully support the agriculture and livestock sectors.
He emphasized continued backing for domestic producers and agricultural associations, describing farming and livestock as key pillars of the national economy.
Officials also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize agriculture, support farmers and livestock owners, and increase exports instead of imports.
The event also featured a four-day agricultural exhibition, showcasing domestic products and attended by government officials, traders, producers, and hundreds of visitors.
