Nearly 5,500 Afghan migrants forcibly deported from Pakistan in one day

KABUL: The High Commission for Addressing Refugees’ Issues says 5,498 Afghan migrants were forcibly deported from Pakistan in a single day.

According to a statement from the commission today, the deportations took place on Wednesday, with returnees entering Afghanistan through the Torkham Crossing in Nangarhar province and Spin Boldak in Kandahar province.

The statement states that 5,056 migrants crossed via Torkham, while 442 others returned through Spin Boldak.

Upon arrival, the returnees were registered and provided with humanitarian assistance before being transported to their home areas.

The development comes after Afghan officials raised concerns about the condition of migrants held at the Hamza Baba camp in Landi Kotal, across the Durand Line. Afghanistan’s ambassador in Islamabad reportedly contacted Sohail Afridi, a senior official in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging attention to the situation of Afghan migrants there.
