Foreign Ministry calls on stranded Afghans in Qatar to return home

KABUL: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan has urged Afghan nationals reportedly stranded in camps in Qatar to return to their homeland with full confidence.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry responded to reports that Afghans held in U.S.-run facilities in Qatar may be relocated either to Afghanistan or third countries. It described Afghanistan as the “shared home of all Afghans.”

The ministry emphasized that the country’s doors remain open to all citizens abroad and encouraged those wishing to travel overseas to do so through legal and dignified channels.

It also stated that the authorities are ready to cooperate with other countries within a structured framework to protect the rights of Afghan citizens.

According to the statement, Afghan officials have assured foreign governments that there is currently no security threat originating from Afghanistan, and that no one is leaving the country due to security-related concerns.

The remarks come amid reports that the United States has asked some Afghan allies, who have been held in Qatar for over four years, to choose between returning to Afghanistan or relocating to a third country.
