KABUL: The provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Balkh, said in a statement that Uzbekistan has provided 40 metric tons of improved seeds to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
The aid shipment, which includes cotton, rice, and vegetable seeds has been officially received by Mawlavi Misbahuddin Mustaeen, director of corps and plants of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said the statement.
Local officials said the seed shipment has been transferred to the storage facilities of the provincial agriculture department.
Authorities stated that the seeds will be distributed to different provinces across Afghanistan based on a designated quota system so farmers can benefit from them and help boost agricultural production.
Officials in Balkh believe that the Uzbek assistance will improve cultivation quality and increase agricultural yields in Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan has previously provided humanitarian assistance shipments to Afghanistan as well.
