KABUL: The General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports said in a statement today that the country’s powerlifting team has returned home from Belarus after winning four gold, two silver, and one bronze medals.
According to the statement, the team participated in the championship with the support of the General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports, competing in the deadlift, bench press, and squat categories.
The statement added that Noor Ahmad Sakhizada, Mirwais Sakhizada, Jaber Shirin Sokhan, and Fawad Shirin Sokhan won gold medals, Rohullah Khairandish and Hamidullah Hakimi secured silver and bronze medals respectively.
A number of officials from the sports authority went to Kabul International Airport to welcome the athletes upon their arrival.
The World Powerlifting Championship was held in Belarus with athletes from 10 countries participating, and Afghanistan secured third place overall in the competition.
