Over 650 Afghan families return in one day; cash assistance distributed to 601 families

KABUL: The High Commission for Addressing Refugee Issues said in a statement that 682 returning refugee families, comprising 3,574 individuals, returned to the country through various border crossings on Friday and received necessary assistance upon arrival.

According to the statement, the largest number of returnees entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing in eastern Nangarhar province, where 631 families, totaling 3,338 individuals, returned.

More than 2.3 million Afghanis have been spent to the transportation of 459 families, consisting of 2,470 people, to their home areas during the same period, said the statement.

Cash aid was distributed to 601 returning families. Of that amount, 4.45 million Afghanis were allocated to support 557 families at the Torkham crossing alone.

According to the statement, Afghan returnees have also received healthcare, food, and telecommunications services. A total of 681 SIM cards with activated service packages were distributed, while hundreds of individuals benefited from medical assistance.

The High Commission for Addressing Refugee Issues stated that returnees were also provided with information and guidance regarding registration procedures, temporary accommodation, financial support, transportation, and other available services.
