KABUL: At least 27 people have been killed and 63 others injured after a fire broke out at a café in Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, authorities said.
According to Thai media, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene and said 22 of the injured are in critical condition.
He said the fire erupted around midnight, with thick smoke rapidly engulfing the café.
According to the prime minister, several customers sought refuge in the rear section of the building but were unable to escape.
Suriyachai Rawiwan, head of Bangkok’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said 27 bodies have been recovered from the site, while all injured victims have been transferred to hospitals for treatment.
Thai authorities said the cause of the fire remains unknown, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
